Boston Mayor Michelle Wu delivered her State of the City Address, providing an overview of the community’s accomplishments and future plans. The Mayor’s priorities include housing affordability, education, youth development, green spaces, climate action, and public safety.
Mayor Wu emphasized the importance of housing as a foundational element of the city’s progress. She outlined achievements in affordable housing, such as permitting the highest ratio of affordable housing in over a decade and approving nearly 7,400 housing units for future development.
Another central component of her remarks was the significance of education, highlighting the strides the public school system has made, including improving infrastructure, renovating schools, and enhancing learning environments. The Mayor also shared initiatives to provide universal pre-K, support for early educators, and job opportunities for students.
Mayor Wu reiterated her commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasizing the ban on fossil fuels in new city buildings, zero net carbon zoning plans, and launching Boston’s first networked geothermal system.
