  • Mayor Andrew Ginther

    Columbus, Ohio

In his State of the City Address, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther outlined his vision for the city and his priorities for his third term in office. These include strengthening community safety, promoting affordable neighborhoods, and building an expanded, equitable, and affordable transportation system.

Mayor Ginther underscored the importance of maintaining safe and vibrant neighborhoods and reaffirmed the city’s commitment to reducing crime. He credited the efforts of Chief Bryant and the Columbus Police Department for significant achievements, including a decrease in homicides and improvements in solving crimes. Initiatives such as the Crime Gun Intelligence Center have been transformational, drastically reducing the time required to trace firearms and helping to increase case-closure rates.

Transportation is another priority, with the LinkUS initiative aiming to improve mobility in Central Ohio. This comprehensive plan includes the development of rapid transit lines, extensive bikeways, sidewalks, and trails to create a more connected and accessible community. LinkUS is expected to enhance job access, reduce transportation costs, and spur new regional development.

The Mayor discussed housing affordability and availability, which will be addressed through comprehensive zoning reform. Columbus plans to update the community’s zoning code for the first time in 70 years, which will lead to higher standards and faster construction to meet demand. He also highlighted how the modernized zoning efforts are estimated to help produce 88,000 new residences. Mayor Ginther also called for regional cooperation to ensure that growth benefits all communities and addresses disparities in opportunity and prosperity.
