Washington, D.C. – Today, the Democratic Mayors Association condemned the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the SAVE America Act:
The Democratic Mayors Association strongly opposes and unequivocally condemns the so-called “Save America Act,” which was passed yesterday in the U.S. House.
Mayors are on the ground every day with the people they serve, seeing up close what happens when trust in government is shaken and when barriers stand between voters and the ballot box. This bill does not “save” anything—it makes it harder for eligible Americans to vote and harder for communities to hold their elected officials accountable. It is a step backward for our democracy.
We should be making it easier for Americans to hold their elected officials accountable, not harder. At a time when we should be expanding access to voting and strengthening participation, this legislation does the opposite.
