Washington, D.C. – Today, the Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) announced its endorsement of Mayor Ras J. Baraka for reelection as Mayor of Newark, NJ.
“Under Mayor Ras Baraka’s leadership, Newark has achieved a 60-year low in crime, developed affordable housing and reduced homelessness by more than half, and turned a $90 million deficit into a story of real economic growth. Newark is thriving because of Mayor Baraka’s leadership, and I’m proud to stand behind him for a fourth term,” said DMA President Mayor Quinton Lucas.
The endorsement of Mayor Baraka reflects DMA’s commitment to supporting Democratic mayors whose bold, results-driven leadership helps their community thrive. As Mayor, he has expanded economic opportunities, strengthened public safety leading to record-low violent crime rates, and made housing more affordable. He has also launched Hire. Buy. Live. Newark, the first program of its kind in the country to combine employment, procurement, and residential strategies, developed a new initiative to put Newark students on a path to debt-free college degrees.
