Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Mayors Association President Quinton Lucas shared a statement following the Supreme Court of the United States’ decision in Louisiana v. Callais:
“Make no mistake, today’s decision will gut the voting power of those in our country who are already routinely excluded from the chambers of power. The Supreme Court shut the door on Black voices in parts of our country where discrimination remains an obstacle to success for all.
Mayors know these decisions don’t stay on paper—they shape who gets heard and who gets overlooked in our communities. While today’s decision takes us backwards, Mayors will never stop fighting to protect the sacred right to vote and to ensure every member of our community has the right to be heard.”
