Washington, D.C. – Mayor Quinton Lucas, President of the Democratic Mayors Association, shared this statement following the President’s State of the Union address:
Tonight, Americans heard a lot of talk. Here are the facts. Violent crime is down to record lows across the country. That progress didn’t happen because of rhetoric in Washington — it happened because mayors funded law enforcement, invested in prevention, and implemented strategies that work.
At the same time, Democratic mayors are tackling the costs families feel every day — building more housing, cutting red tape, strengthening local economies, and expanding opportunity.
But more work is needed – and instead of attacking cities, Trump should be working with them. Mayors are on the ground every day, working for their communities — it’s time Washington did the same.
