Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer delivered his State of the City Address, highlighting the essential role local government plays in residents’ everyday lives and how responsible investments of local property tax dollars help deliver the services residents rely on. As Orlando has welcomed approximately 47,000 new residents over the past five years, Mayor Dyer emphasized the city’s continued investment in the public servants, programs and infrastructure needed to serve a growing community.
Mayor Dyer shared progress in public safety, transportation and infrastructure. Overall crime fell 19% citywide last year, while Orlando recorded 10 homicides, the fewest in more than 50 years. The city also advanced more than 100 Vision Zero transportation projects, helping reduce deadly and serious injury crashes by 40% since 2020, and the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget includes funding for 44 additional police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel.
His address also highlighted the city’s work to expand housing, support businesses and enhance quality of life. City staff have helped bring nearly 24,000 housing units to Orlando over the last six years, supported more than 240 businesses through the Permitting Express team, and continued investing in more than 120 parks and other neighborhood amenities. Mayor Dyer said the city remains focused on responsibly managing taxpayer dollars and ensuring they are invested where they have the greatest impact for Orlando residents.
