  • Statement from DMA on the Passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

    Mar 12, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Following the U.S. Senate’s bipartisan passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, the Democratic Mayors Association shared this statement:

Passing the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is an important step forward in addressing the need for affordable housing, which is among the most urgent challenges facing our communities.

Across the country, Democratic mayors have been making real progress to expand affordable housing: cutting red tape, working with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to build more housing and bring down costs, and reforming outdated rules that get in the way of production. Cities have been doing the hard work on the ground, pushing innovative solutions and getting more people in safe, affordable homes.

But mayors can’t solve the housing crisis alone. We need strong federal partners and the tools and resources to match the scale of the challenge.

This legislation moves us in the right direction, and we look forward to continuing to work with leaders in both parties to ensure every family can find an affordable place to call home. More must be done — and Democratic mayors stand ready to keep leading the way.
