WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Democratic Mayors Association President Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney released the following statement in response to the Senate’s historic confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court:
“Democratic Mayors across the nation praise the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the newest associate justice and first Black woman to the United States Supreme Court. This historic moment marks our nation’s continued progress in ensuring the highest court reflects the diversity of race, gender, and lived experiences of more Americans at the highest level.”
“As one of our nation’s brightest legal minds, she comes to the bench with extensive experience across the legal profession, more than any other sitting justice. Judge Jackson has proudly served as a federal appellate judge, a federal district court judge, a federal public defender, an attorney in private practice, and a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission. With Judge Jackson’s exceptional credentials, impeccable character, and unwavering commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law, she will make a phenomenal addition to the Supreme Court.”
