Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and state leaders highlighted President Biden and Democrat efforts for the American people on the creation of more than four million new jobs, tax cuts for middle-class families and lower health care costs Wednesday at the DNC’s “Build Back Better” bus tour in Houston.
The mayor thanked the Biden-Harris administration as he welcomed the bus to Houston. He noted that 2020 was a very painful time for a lot of families throughout the United States and said since Biden has taken office, his administration has helped provide additional relief with the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
Turner said families in Houston and Harris County have benefited from the act by allowing local officials to provide rental and utility assistance to those in need. He said because of the ARPA, the city’s emergency rental assistance program provided funds to more than 45,000 households during the pandemic.
He said the act has provided more money than any other program in the U.S.
Alvarado also thanked the Biden administration for touring and not rallying. She also thanked the administration for the infrastructure bill that will benefit her district in the East End.
“I’m proud to join my Democratic colleagues because I know that President Biden and the Democratic Party are committed to improving the lives of all Americans and increasing access to equality and affordable health care,” Alvarado said.
She noted that Biden has taken swift action within his six months with more than 2 million Americans signing up for health care in Texas.
Brailey thanked Turner and Alvarado for helping make Houston a better place. She also wished Texas Gov. Greg Abbott a speedy recovery as he battles COVID-19.
Brailey said under Biden’s administration and Democrat leadership in the past six months, the economy has gone from creating only 6,000 new jobs a month to creating 60,000 jobs every three days, adding a record-shattering 4 million jobs.
“Democrats are going to create even more good jobs for working folks and keep our economy growing strong,” Bailey said.
