Baltimore (WBFF) — Mayor Scott announced a partnership with Baltimore Corp and Baltimore's two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to launch a new HBCU fellowship initiative this morning at Baltimore City Hall.
The fellowship is designed to create a pipeline for HBCU graduates to enter public service careers in local government, according to a news release.
“HBCU fellows will work at city government agencies while receiving monthly professional development training, mentoring, and coaching from Baltimore Corp. They will be paid between $50,000 and $65,000, receive a one-time $1,000 transitional housing stipend and a one-time $500 transportation stipend,” said Mayor Scott at the event.
According to the announcement, this fellowship is for 25 recent graduates from Coppin State University and Morgan State University.
The fellows will have the opportunity to work for the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Works, the Health Department, Planning Development, and many more for 9 months according to the event.
According to the event, this fellowship will help fill critical vacancies in Baltimore City while also helping the fellows start their careers.
“Coppin State University and Morgan State University are part of that secret Old Bay sauce that makes Baltimore special,” said Mayor Scott at the event. “They deserve our deep investment and our unwavering support. They deserve access to opportunity because we know how many opportunities they provide us in Baltimore City.”
