WJLA: DC mayor announces investments expanding access to affordable child care for families

Washington, D.C. (7News) — Mayor Muriel Bowser and State Superintendent Dr. Christina Grant joined families at Easterseals Child Development Center in Ward 1 Monday to highlight child care investments.

It's part of Mayor Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2024 Budget which includes several investments to expand access to child care for District families and to showcase existing early learning programs.

The proposal states:

  • Raising the eligibility for the childcare subsidy from 250% of the federal poverty line to 300% of the federal poverty line.

  • $6.8M toward the Special Education Enhancement Fund. Part of this funding will be awarded to development facilities (including those that operate before/afterschool programs) with capacity to serve infants, toddlers and school-aged children with disabilities and developmental delays.
