ICYMI: Hartford Launches New Program to Allow Use of Housing Vouchers for Mortgage Payments
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Hartford, CT, Mayor Arunan Arulampalam announced a historic effort to transform housing opportunities in Hartford – a collaborative effort between public and private sectors to use Section 8 vouchers as mortgage assistance to help facilitate affordable homeownership.
“This pilot program represents a fundamental shift in how we approach housing in Hartford, moving beyond stability and toward true economic empowerment,” said Mayor Arunan Arulampalam in a press release announcing this new program. “By reimagining the Housing Choice Voucher as a tool for wealth creation, we are giving families the opportunity to transition from renters to owners, allowing them to build equity that will benefit their children and grandchildren for years to come.”
