With a week to go until Election Day, states and municipalities across the country are preparing to administer elections in a way they’ve never had to before. In light of President Donald Trump’s constant threats to elections, pressure on local election officials has never been greater—but the Democratic Mayors Association is not letting them go it alone.
The Associated Press reported today on the preparations that officials are making ahead of the midterms, including DMA’s election security guidance:
“The Democratic Mayors Association issued guidance to local Democratic officials with detailed instructions about what to do if federal agents appear at polling locations.
“It notes that federal law prohibits the presence of federal immigration agents, the FBI or other investigative personnel. It also issued a reminder that federal agents are not allowed to be armed at the polls, nor are they allowed to interact with voters or handle ballots or election equipment.”
Officials at every level of government are dealing with unprecedented threats to our elections. Mayors are our most trusted public officials in America and it’s critical that they are fully prepared, in these unprecedented times, as they work to protect the vote and ensure every eligible voter who wants to vote can vote and have their vote count.
