NEW: Democratic Mayors Association Responds to Trump’s 2020 Election Lies
“Across the country, our elections are secure, fair, and safe for all voters.”
WASHINGTON—Today, President Donald Trump will deliver a prime time address to the nation to once again peddle lies about the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election and, according to reports, call into question the legitimacy of the elections of Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. Ahead of Trump’s address, the Democratic Mayors Association released the following statement.
“Across the country, our elections are secure, fair, and safe for all voters. Don’t just take it from us: take it from law enforcement and election officials across the country. There is simply no evidence backing up Trump’s claims of fraud.
“Do not be fooled: this is a politically motivated attempt to delegitimize two United States Senators who were sent by millions of voters here in Georgia to represent them in Washington. President Trump is trying to undermine our democracy because he suffered a bruised ego six years ago. His claims have been repeatedly debunked. They are baseless and anything he says tonight will not be based on merit.
“The right to vote and the right to be represented in our government—a right that so many have fought and bled for over the years—is sacred. Americans believe that every voice should be heard and every vote should be counted. That’s why Democratic mayors will continue to do everything we can to keep elections secure, voters safe, and our democracy alive even as it is under attack.”
Reports are also indicating that ICE agents may be deployed to polling places in major cities across the country despite the Trump administration’s own government stating noncitizen voting is not an issue. This unprecedented attempt at voter intimidation comes as ICE agents allegedly killed three people in the last week, amplifying fear in Black and brown communities about the safety in their own neighborhoods.
