Democratic Mayors Association Statement on Juneteenth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) issued the following statement in commemoration of the 159th Juneteenth anniversary:

“Today, Democratic Mayors commemorate the 159th anniversary of Juneteenth, celebrating the end of slavery and the liberation of Black Americans nationwide. The legacy of Juneteenth symbolizes a critical moment in our country’s story. It is a day to recognize the strides our nation has made and the important work that remains to be completed to ensure equality and justice for all Americans. This Juneteenth, we honor the resilience and fortitude of Black Americans while celebrating their numerous contributions to our cities across the country. We also reflect on the many hardships endured by Black Americans throughout history in the search for freedom and civil liberties. As Mayors, we renew our commitment to placing equity at the foundation of our work and addressing the lasting impacts of racial injustices on our residents and communities beyond.”
