Democratic Mayors Association Statement on the Election of New House Democratic Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) President Mayor Levar M. Stoney issued the following statement on the election of new House Democratic leaders:

“The Democratic Mayors Association welcomes the newest generation of Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, Rep. Katherine Clark, and Rep. Pete Aguilar. This is a historic moment for our country as we continue to make progress in ensuring our legislative leaders reflect the diversity of race, gender, and lived experiences of more Americans at the highest level. Notably, this is marked by Rep. Jeffries becoming the first Black lawmaker to lead a major American party in Congress and Rep. Aguilar becoming the highest-ranking Latino in the House ever. We congratulate them on their new positions and look forward to their vision and leadership in the next session of Congress.”
