Democratic Mayors Association Statement on the Passing of President Jimmy Carter
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) issued the following statement in response to the passing of President Jimmy Carter:
“Today, Democratic Mayors across the country mourn the passing of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. He will be remembered as a compassionate leader and devoted public servant who worked tirelessly to bring positive change to our country and improve the lives of individuals across the globe.
President Carter’s accolades encompass a wide range of critical issues, notably his efforts to advance human rights, establish the U.S. Departments of Education and Energy, expand the national parks system, and the appointment of a record number of women, African Americans, and Hispanics to federal positions. Beyond his presidency, he will be remembered for his humanitarian efforts with the Carter Center, which has aided people across the world in resolving conflicts, promoting democracy, protecting human rights, and improving health outcomes.
The Democratic Mayors Association extends its deepest condolences to President Carter’s family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy and work ethic will continue to inspire those who strive to make a difference in the world.”
