Democratic Mayors Association Statement on House Oversight Hearing on Immigration Policies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) President Mayor Justin M. Bibb issued the following statement in response to the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability hearing held yesterday on immigration policies in cities:
“The Democratic Mayors Association applauds Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams for their leadership in testifying before the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Their voices were critical in combating false narratives about immigrants and reminding Congress of real solutions that make our cities safer and economies stronger.
As Democratic mayors, we stand ready to work with Congress on bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform—legislation that is long overdue. In the meantime, while we wait for a federal partner who is actually ready to solve the issues we face, Mayors will continue to keep our cities safe and our nation’s economy running.”
