Democratic Mayors Association Statement on the Passing of Congressman and Former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association issued the following statement in response to the passing of Congressman and former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner: 

“Today, the Democratic Mayors Association mourns the passing of our dear friend, Congressman, and former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. He will be remembered as a devoted public servant and transformative leader who worked tirelessly to uplift Houston and beyond to ensure a more equitable future for all. 

As Mayor, he championed policies that strengthened Houston’s resilience and improved the lives of all residents for generations to come. He successfully led the city through seven federally declared natural disasters and launched Houston’s first Climate Action Plan, paving the way for a more sustainable future. Under his leadership, he made historic investments in reducing homelessness, expanded youth opportunities through Hire Houston Youth, and enhanced community safety through his One Safe Houston initiative. 

The Democratic Mayors Association extends its heartfelt condolences to Congressman Turner’s family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy will continue to inspire those who strive to make a difference in the world.”
