Democratic Mayors Association Statement on the Senate Confirmation of Steve Dettelbach as ATF Director

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association President Mayor Levar M. Stoney issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Steve Dettelbach as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:

“Democratic Mayors commend the bipartisan group of Senators who confirmed Steve Dettelbach as the new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Dettelbach is a proven leader who has had a distinguished career as a prosecutor and is well qualified to serve as the first permanent director of the bureau since 2015. As our communities continue to experience horrific mass shootings and rising gun violence, his confirmation could not come at a more critical time. Our country needs a strong leader at the ATF to implement our nation’s gun laws, including the recently passed Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and executive orders to combat crime and save more lives.”
