Democratic Mayors Association Statement on the Tragic Texas Elementary School Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) Board President Mayor Levar Stoney issued the following statement in response to the horrific shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas:

“Once again, we mourn the innocent lives taken by senseless gun violence in America. Our hearts go out to all impacted by the shooting at Robb Elementary School, and we stand together with the Uvalde community as they bear the weight of this horrific tragedy.

Just over a week ago, our country found itself angered and frustrated by the senseless gun violence in Buffalo and Milwaukee. Once again, we find ourselves heartbroken with no commitment to change things. To take action.

No More. Our communities are far past their breaking point with gun violence. We must all collectively take responsibility for stopping these horrific acts that continue to plague our nation. Our communities, especially our children, deserve better. We must take our outrage and move it to action. Individual and collective action to stop this horrific gun violence.

As Mayors, we will continue our battle to get guns off the streets and address the root causes of crime in our cities. We can't do this alone or in a vacuum. Congress must pass common-sense gun reforms. States must take action as well. We ALL bear the responsibility to do everything in our power to stop this violence that is killing our children and ravaging our country. We ALL must commit to and take action. Now. As Mayors, we are doubling down on our efforts. We can do nothing less. For the sake of our children. We owe them this.”
