Democratic Mayors Association Applauds the Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in the House
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Democratic Mayors Association (DMA) President Mayor Levar M. Stoney issued the following statement in response to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in the U.S. House of Representatives:
“Today, Democratic Mayors celebrate the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act because it will not only help our nation make progress in fighting inflation but reduce everyday costs for regular families. For far too long, the economy has only worked for those at the top, while working-class folks have struggled to make ends meet. The Inflation Reduction Act uplifts American families by lowering health insurance and prescription drug costs while creating good-paying jobs and reducing the deficit. This bill will hold wealthy corporations accountable and finally make them pay their fair share.
With today’s victory in the House, our country also makes the most significant investment in history in combatting the climate crisis, creating a greener future for every American. This historic investment will lower energy costs, reduce emissions, increase energy security, and invest in disadvantaged communities. Millions of lives will be transformed for the better because of this legislation.
As Mayors, we cannot think of a better investment for our families, workers, and cities than the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. We thank members of the House for supporting this important legislation and look forward to President Joe Biden signing it into law.”
